Adidas and Bugatti have collaborated to unveil an exciting auction of a special selection of soccer boots through Adidas’ innovative web3 platform. In a joint press release shared on Bugatti’s official website, it was announced that a total of 99 pairs of shoes, inspired by Bugatti’s iconic car designs, will be available for sale from November 8th to 11th. Each pair of shoes will be accompanied by a digital twin, and prospective buyers can participate in the auction using MoonPay, a leading crypto and NFT payment service that allows the use of fiat currency for crypto transactions.
The limited-edition shoes are built around Adidas’ popular X Crazyfast laced boot and will be offered in a stylish black shade as well as the signature “Bugatti Blue,” inspired by the color of early Bugatti Grand Prix cars. Bugatti’s managing director, Wiebke Stahl, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We share this relentless drive for perfection with Adidas, who apply the same rigorous approach to their boots, with ever lighter and more effective designs.
Once the auction concludes on November 11th, all successful bidders will receive an exclusive digital shoebox that can be redeemed through Adidas Collect starting from November 13th.
This collaboration between Adidas and Bugatti follows a recent trend of major sportswear brands venturing into the crypto space to connect with cryptocurrency enthusiasts. Nike, for instance, initiated the physical claim process for its “forging” event in October, where customers received shoes that were initially sold as digital assets back in April 2022. The RTFKT x Nike DUNK GENESIS sneakers offered modular attachments, customizable features, and an NFC chip, enabling holders to collect and swap physical RTFKT “Skin Vials” associated with different colorways.
Similarly, Puma partnered with NFT firm Legitimate and Roc Nation, an entertainment agency, to release a unique sneaker collection titled “Evolution of the Mixtape.” The collection featured three models, each embedded with Legitimate’s NFC chip called “LGT Tag” in the shoe’s tongue. Through scanning the NFC chip, owners gain access to a digital portal offering weekly mixtapes, exclusive artist content, and unreleased tracks by Roc Nation artists.
These collaborations demonstrate how sportswear brands are embracing the convergence of physical and digital realms, creating enticing experiences for customers and collectors alike.
Embracing the synergy between fashion, technology, and collectibles, the Adidas and Bugatti partnership taps into the growing demand for unique physical products with digital assets, highlighting the continued innovation within the industry.
