Tether, the leading stablecoin issuer, today announced the appointment of Paolo Arduino as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Arduino will officially take the CEO seat in December 2023. He succeeds Jean-Louis van der Velde, who will take up an advisory role at Tether. He also continues as CEO of Bitfinex.
Arduino is set to fill multiple roles, retaining his current position as Bitfinex’s CTO and Chief Strategy Officer for Holepunch.
Since joining Bitfinex in 2014, Arduino’s role has primarily revolved around refining the platform’s Bitcoin trading features.
His involvement with Tether began in 2017 when he became its Chief Technology Officer. During his tenure, Tether saw the growth of the market value, which is currently 83 billion dollars.
In public discussions and interviews about Tether and Bitfinex, Arduino has often acted as a representative of the highly controversial company. Arduino says in his post on X that he is “excited” and “happy” to play the new role.
According to a Wall Street Journal investigative report published earlier this year, Tether Holdings is primarily controlled by four men: Chief Financial Officer Giancarlo Davacini; In Velde, the current CEO of Tether and Bitfinex. Brock Pierce, a co-founder who later left the company. Christopher Harborne, also known as Chakrit Sakunkrit, who became a significant owner after the Bitfinex hack.
These people have different backgrounds. From plastic surgery to childhood acting, their combined holdings comprise 86% of Tether. Their intervention and management have been investigated amid the company’s controversies.
