Redcatpig game studio is trying to integrate with blockchain. A game studio welcomes entry into the blockchain space The gaming industry has quietly undergone a major transformation, integrating blockchain technology into its framework without the buzz of buzzwords associated with it. The change was discussed at the Madeira Blockchain 2023 event, where game studios revealed the obstacles they faced trying to integrate blockchain into their games.

Introducing Redcatpig game studio

RedcatPig Game Studio, a leading Web3 game development studio, faced internal challenges to convince its team about the benefits of blockchain for gamers. CEO Marco Bettencourt emphasized the struggle in communicating the benefits of this technology. However, their persistence led to the creation of HoverShock, the first blockchain-based game to be released in 2024. The game introduces non-fungible token (NFT) based skins and drones that can be traded in the game’s marketplace using fiat or digital currencies. Interestingly, Redcatpig consciously avoided using blockchain-related buzzwords and instead focused on functionality that directly benefits players.

The field of activity of VEU, a company active in artificial intelligence

VEU, another company specializing in AI-based solutions for virtual worlds, has faced a lot of community backlash after integrating blockchain. Nuno Rivotti, chief product officer, highlighted a needed shift in industry approach, stating that users do not necessarily need deep knowledge of the underlying technology to reap its benefits. This sentiment reflects RedcatPig’s stance on focusing on tangible benefits rather than industry jargon.

Despite initial resistance and backlash from some players, the integration of blockchain into gaming continues at a steady pace. In Portugal, this technology has played a central role in game product pipelines and government investment strategies through the eGames Lab. This consortium consists of 22 public and private institutions with the aim of strengthening the country’s computer games industry and facilitating its global expansion.

The reluctance to advertise blockchain keywords in the game shows a conscious effort by the studios to prioritize functionality and user experience over technical jargon. The experiences of Redcatpig and VEU reflect a growing trend in the industry where developers are skillfully integrating blockchain without overtly emphasizing its presence and instead focusing on providing tangible benefits to gamers. As blockchain continues to evolve in gaming ecosystems, this approach may be instrumental in gaining wider acceptance and adoption among players.
